Summer Festivals: A Cultural Opportunity

During the summer months, it is common for festivals of all sorts to take place all around the world. Especially this year, after a couple of summers with social restrictions and travel limitations, many summer festivals are coming with force and high expectations to make up for the Covid-19 cancellations.

But aside from the element of fun and celebration inherent to summer festivals, they also bring a cultural factor that should not be overlooked, especially for those living or travelling abroad. Indeed, summer festivals constitute a great opportunity to find out more about local traditions and cultural values of a certain society or of a particular region/territory/country.

Expatriates and tourists can gain a lot of cultural insights by attending and participating in summer festivals. For instance, they could experience local rituals, maybe listen to traditional music, attend dancing or performance shows, try local food, and, notably, interact with locals.

Summer festivals are a great opportunity for expatriates to know more about their host country/culture and to integrate in a relaxed and stress-free manner. Additionally, they could constitute a family activity that could help parents and children understand better their new location’s identity, while also strengthening emotional bonds and feelings of belonging.
